I Made a Kite from Scratch

September 23rd, 2008 2:41 pm

On vacation recently, I made a couple of kites with my friend Matt. We used dried hollow sticks similar to bamboo, garbage bags liners, duct tape and string. 100% custom kite that was all natural, organic, homemade and non toxic.

Kite attempt #1

Traditional style kite that worked well with some fine tuned adjustments to string angle and position. It ended its career as the worlds best kite when it flew off into the cold ocean.

Kite attempt #2

This kite resembled a wind sock more than a standard kite.

Which Rims Should I Get?

May 18th, 2008 9:38 pm

I’m shopping for new rims for my 2007 Mazda 3. I’ll be upgrading from 17inch to 18inch tires because bigger tires just look so darn cool :)

I’ve narrowed the selection down to these 8. I like one of them a lot but I’m still undecided and I need your help. Now, tell me two things:

  1. Which one should I get?
  2. Do you think that one is my favorite?

Tracking My Facebook Fame

November 15th, 2007 2:05 am

Adonomics.com allows Facebook Developers to monitor their applications. They even valuate the app with a monetary value. Currently my Profile Module application is worth a grand total of $30. Considering how much time I’ve spent developing this app, I’m hoping the valuation better go up.

Here are some nice updating graphs that Adonomics provides. Feel free to monitor them with me. I’ll be checking them every hour day.

Not Just Famous Online

November 12th, 2007 1:10 am

Zwinky in the Journal NewsIn the Journal News this Sunday, I was displayed in a picture on the front page of the business section.

Woohoo!

I had no idea that I was going to have a picture taken of me that day. I may have worn something else like my favorite Hawaiian shirt. Luckily I happened to get a haircut at lunch that day because my hair had gotten quite long.

They also took pictures of us playing Guitar Hero in the fun room but they decided not to print those. Too bad because Cindy and I totally rocked out.

If you’d like to read the full article, I’ve archived the online copy in case the Journal News doesn’t keep a copy up forever. And being the geek I am, I also have a digital scan of the first page and follow-up page to protect against aging :)

And if you haven’t heard about Zwinky.com yet, I recommend you check it out. I’m very proud of what we’ve built and there’s so much more we can do it’s exciting.

16 Months of Road Petitions, Gone

October 1st, 2007 9:56 pm

I’m an idiot. A moron. I’m so mad at myself. Considering my previous backup problems, I’m surprised at myself for making the same mistake twice. Kaylee, earmuffs.

In transferring over to my newly formed LLC, I accidentally lost 16 months worth of data from RoadPetition.com. My last backup was from June of 2006. This means everyone’s comments, ratings, petitions and added locations are gone.

You see, when transferring ownership of the domain to my LLC, GoDaddy.com removes any hosting accounts tied to that domain. All files added and modified are gone. Most importantly, my database tables are gone. It wasn’t THAT much data and I should be able to get 10 times that amount, but it’s still disappointing.

Now, GoDaddy allows a backup tape to be recovered for $150. I’m considering letting it die out.

Mod Your Toilet, Save the World

July 7th, 2007 9:04 pm

Today is 07/07/07 and there are world wide concerts happening on each continent (and one online in Zwinky) to promote saving the Earth through easy to do things anyone and everyone should be doing to help.

Some tips are:

  • Replace your light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs that not only last longer but save energy.
  • Reuse plastic shopping bags from the supermarket or better yet bring your own bags to the supermarket.
  • Unplug chargers from the wall socket when you’re not charging anything.

Toilet ModWell, I’ve got my own tip that I’m quite proud of. I’ve been doing this ever since I owned an apartment and started paying the the water bill. This tip is so easy for anyone to do that I hope you do it today.

I mod my toilets. How? I simply fill up a 2 or 3 liter soda bottle with water and place it in the water tank in the back. That way I save 2 or 3 liters of water for each and every flush. That adds up quick! I also lower the water bulb so that the tank doesn’t fill up as much. If you can fit a 3 liter bottle in there, go for it, I recommend the largest bottle you can fit.

You’ll find that missing 2 or 3 liters has little or no impact on the toilets flushing ability. So what are you waiting for? Save the world, mod your toilet today!

Get Zwinked in Zwinktopia with a Zwinky

May 7th, 2007 8:06 pm

After many long days of hard work at my company, we’ve developed Zwinktopia. You may have seen the commercials on TV. They have been shown on Saturday Night Live, Wedding Crashers, and a ton of other places.

Here is the ad, enjoy:

In Zwinktopia, you can do all sorts of things. There are games to play, people to chat with, fun environments to explore, clothing stores in the mall, and a mess load of other cool features. It’s a really exciting product with a huge potential. It will be fun to continue to develop new Zwinky features.

Must Own Highest Number Computer

May 7th, 2007 6:11 pm

I am in the process of building a computer from parts bought on the internet. All I know is I need the highest numbered part of everything.

2x? Nah, there’s 4x!

1.86 Ghz? Nah, there’s 2.4 Ghz!

256 MB? Nah, there’s 512 MB!

What’s SLI? Who cares, I need it!

I try to build a dream PC while still staying realistic in price. Once I’m done, I’ll be sure to post the details for all to see. I’ve spent hours and hours researching what to get and hopefully someone else might want the same kick ass PC.
